Most people have been with me throughout my hair journey and want to know how I grew my hair back after losing it three times due to stress. I’m about to start changing up my hair so I wanted to get this post out. I actually meant to post this about a year ago but I kept testing new products in hopes of finding something new to add to the list.
I’ve covered the most important products already: Omegas and Collagen. You can check out the products I use under my “supplement” tab and I’ll go into other collagen options in a future post.
I am NOT a cosmetologist. Just a hair product junkie. I know how to take care of my scalp and I know how to bring my hair back to life with my tried and true products. Other than that, I know nothing about hair.
About MY scalp:
Since I was in middle school, I’ve dealt with a dry, flaky, irritated scalp. I’ve been to numerous doctors, tried many prescription shampoos (that smell like a wet dog), I’ve spent a fortune at drug stores, spas and department stores. My scalp is SUPER sensitive and will scab and bleed when I use hairspray or dry shampoos. My scalp also burns and blisters if I’m ever in the sun without a hat. I have tons of hair, but it still manages to sneak through and blister.
If there is a scalp treatment out there that I HAVEN’T tried, I would be shocked. I’m pretty sure I’ve managed to test about 90% of products out there.
It was only when I started to think about my scalp, like I do my face, that I actually healed it.
Let me remind you, I’m NOT a cosmetologist. This is what helped ME.
Your scalp is skin. We don’t want to admit that because then we might actually feel embarrassed about not washing it every day. Why did I ever think it was ok NOT to wash my scalp every day but expect my scalp products to work and penetrate on top of build up, oil and dead skin cells? Why did I ever think it was ok to drench my scalp in products loaded with alcohol and then expect it to be balanced?
When my scalp starts to get irritated and dry, I do the following:
-go back to products I KNOW WORK and stop trying new products for awhile.
-I wash my hair daily (with shampoos that have proven to whip my hair in shape and won’t dry my hair out).
-I exfoliate my scalp with topical scalp treatments containing exfoliating ingredients combined with nourishing ingredients.
-I do scalp oil treatments either 30 mins before washing or I sleep in the treatment over night.
-I use a scalp brush and gently massage my scalp while washing and masking.
-I use a clarifying treatment once every two weeks.
-I use cream products to style my hair and eliminate anything that comes in an aerosol can.
When I want to speed up my hair growth:
-Massage, massage, massage! I stimulate my scalp every chance I get. While washing, while masking, always massage. Scalp massagers range from $3-$15 and all work the same.
-I trim my hair 1/8th of an inch every 8-12 weeks.
-I don’t bleach my hair but do a glaze.
-I rarely use heat on my hair and always use a good heat protectant (listed in another post).
-I NEVER, EVER, use flat irons except on my bangs and the roots of my hair to occasionally get the curl kinks out. They make me cringe and if someone uses it on my hair, it takes me a couple of weeks to get my hair back to feeling soft.
-I take my Anti-aging supplements and double up on my collagen.
-I use my favorite masks instead of conditioner.
-I apply oils and/or masks to the bottom half of my hair and sleep in them (products listed in another post).
-I use scalp oils almost every day.

I will list my absolute favorite shampoo, conditioners, masks, and styling products in another post because it’s basically a book. I always stray and try new products but ultimately end up back to my favorites to repair the damage I’ve done testing other products.
